West Malling, Kent
A small market town in the borough of Tonbridge and Malling, between Maidstone and Sevenoaks.
West Malling sits just south of the M20, around six miles west of Maidstone. Its High Street is lined with Georgian and earlier buildings and still holds a regular market, independent shops, pubs and restaurants. The town is known for two Norman survivals: St Leonard’s Tower, a late eleventh-century keep on the edge of the village, and Malling Abbey, founded in the same period and home today to a community of Benedictine nuns.
The town has a railway station on the Maidstone East line, with direct trains towards London and towards Maidstone and Ashford. The modern settlement of Kings Hill, built on the former RAF West Malling airfield, lies immediately to the south, and Manor Park Country Park is a short walk from the High Street.
